At Acton Academy, we start with the most important question: What is education for? We believe that education is about discovering a calling. It's about answering the most fundamental questions: "Who am I? Where am I going? How do my passions and talents connect with the world around me? How can I serve a great need and even change the world?" In other words, it's about the entrepreneurial journey.
Acton Academy School sets up the clearest path to learning through choices and consequences. With grace and community support built in, the students/Eagles have a clearly documented system of progression through levels of freedom based on hard work, kind-heartedness and tough-mindedness. There are no surprises.
We believe each child who enters Acton Academy will find a calling that changes the world.
Running Partners
Each student has a Running Partner. Running Partners are classmates who meet together regularly to set goals and hold each other accountable for meeting those goals. Running Partners encourage and inspire each other by asking good questions, listening and providing affirmation.
A Learner-Driven Community
Students create and sign a Contract of Promises describing how each individual will act and the consequences for violating community norms.
Students can research questions, follow instructions, solve problems and admit that they don’t know something and figure out a solution when they hit a roadblock without asking an adult for help. They participate in discussions, and strive for mastery.
Mentor teams encourage younger and older students to listen, affirm, set goals and hold each other accountable.
“Learn to Be” badges that celebrate character and completing leadership challenges.
